A Son's Dream: Helping Mom and Dad Find a New Home

How Leiter used his Dreamweaver prize to help his parents secure a new apartment closer to work, changing their daily lives.

For Leiter Padilla, the dream was never about himself — it was about his mom and dad. Every day, Leiter watched his mother wake up at 5:30 in the morning and not return home until around 7:00 p.m., exhausted from the long commute to and from work. He saw her push through that grueling routine day after day, and all he wanted was to make her life a little easier. The solution was simple but out of reach: a new apartment, one much closer to her job, that would give her back the hours she was losing on the road.

In Miami, moving into a new apartment means coming up with first month's rent, last month's rent, and a security deposit — three months' worth of payments upfront. It was a financial barrier Leiter's family couldn't overcome on their own. That's where One Park Financial and the Dreamweaver program stepped in. With the prize money, Leiter was able to cover those move-in costs and help his parents settle into a place that changed their daily lives. Without that support, he says, they simply couldn't have made it happen at that time.

"I'd given up on the idea that it would happen anytime soon. Then one day, everything changed."

Today, Leiter's parents are in their new apartment, and the difference is night and day. He describes the space as cozy and awesome, but what matters most to him is how happy his mom and dad are. Being able to give back to the people who gave him everything — that's what made this dream worth chasing. In his own words, Leiter is deeply grateful to the One Park Financial family for giving him the opportunity to help his parents accomplish something that means the world to all of them.
